A Marvelous Collection

IMG_1965.jpg

I’ve been busy working on lots of new genres of artwork. This Marvelous collection is one. I’ve always had a massive passion for pop culture and pop art. Since I’ve had my son - who is now five years old and completely mad about super heroes (which boy of his age isn’t, after all?) - I realised that Marvell characters seemed an obvious route for me to take with this set of original artworks.

Each composition has been drawn prior to producing the mosaic, which is made up of tiny versions of the original image. Once each piece has been digitally mastered, it’s then printed in black and white onto heavy art paper. When printed, I then set out to recreate the characters by painting freehand, using no stencils, an airbrush and translucent ink. I mix the colours as I go and paint continuously, until the piece is finished, building up colours layer by layer. I’m saying this so you know how much work goes into each picture.

I’ve started with Batman and Captain America, but have also produced the mosaics for Spiderman, Iron Man and The Hulk. They’ll be on my site very soon.

For this collection, I will produce just 10 editions of a piece. Every print will be totally unique.

I hope you enjoy this collection, as much as I did producing it.

My Limited Editions

Unlike many limited edition prints all of mine are hand pulled screen prints which are printed by myself. Where suitable the register is purposely shifted fractions giving variation to the piece, some pieces have further random variations due to screens drying in which add character making each piece more unique. Once printed each piece is paint splatted making it completely individual.

The new website goes live, we're open for business!

After months of hard work and help from Paul from ‘this is resonance’ I’m proud to announce the launch of my new e-commerce website. All the original artworks, limited editions and cushions are all hand made, painted, screen printed or produced by myself to the highest standard in Nottingham. I really hope you like what you see and look forward to taking some orders... hopefully!!!
Thanks Nick

In Loving Memory

A collection of artworks based around dried flower compositions produced by my late grandmother in the 1970s. I inherited all the original pieces when she passed away and thought it would be a nice tribute to her to bring them back to life.
The process was quite time consuming and I started by getting each piece photographed by my Brother. Once they had been photographed I got to work on ‘Floral I’ digitally rebuilding and repairing any damage and removing the back ground. I then enhanced each flower individually to make them almost skeletal, this was to enable me to fill them with colour once I’d screen printed the final image. After all the enhancement I then painted the shadows back into the image, the whole process was quite a painstaking affair and literally took weeks.
Once the image had been lovingly restored I created a halftoned image which was applied to a large silkscreen. I then set about screen printing using water based inks onto heavy art paper which in itself was quite a task at this size 1190 x 840mm. Once I’d printed the final Image I traced the flowers and hand cut my stencils before spray painting with an airbrush and ink, when completed I then hand painted the pollen on the poppy.
I produce 5 Editions of each individually painted making each unique and original.
